Select the Perfect Romantic Spot to Propose and take Your Engagement Photography
Crested Butte, often referred to as the “Wildflower Capital of Colorado,” is not only famous for its vibrant wildflower meadows but also offers some of the most beautiful panoramic views in the country- a super romantic spot to propose! Located about 230 miles southwest of Denver, Crested Butte is a hidden gem in the Rocky Mountains, providing a combination of rugged terrain, serene landscapes, and a quaint small-town that will make your proposal photoshoot unforgettable.
From towering peaks to sweeping valleys and alpine lakes, Crested Butte offers an abundance of natural beauty that creates a romantic setting for your proposal. Whether you want to celebrate your engagement on a scenic mountaintop, by a glistening lake, or amidst fields of wildflowers, Crested Butte has it all. This incredible destination ensures that every moment of your proposal photoshoot is captured in stunning detail. See a list below of my personal favorites and romantic spots to propose!
10 Romantic Spots to Propose and Have Engagement Photos in Crested Butte
- Emerald Lake: A stunning alpine lake surrounded by lush greenery in the summer and snow-covered landscapes in the winter, providing a tranquil and romantic spot to propose.

- Woods Walk is one of the ceremony sites owned by Crested Butte Land Trust, that you can reserve for both elopements and larger weddings. It is a perfect location for a romantic spot to propose and take engagement photos with its flowers, trails through the aspens and view of Mt. Crested Butte. And if you love it for your proposal you will love it for your wedding! It’s walking distance to downtown, which makes it very easy to combine an outdoor ceremony here with a reception at one of the many restaurants on Elk Ave.

- Peanut Lake is another of the ceremony sites that can be rented via the Crested Butte Land Trust. It’s close enough to downtown to be walkable in summer, and features views of Mt. Crested Butte and an aspen grove of beauty- a super romantic spot to propose.
- Gunsight Bridge is the final of the three ceremony sites from Crested Butte Land Trust. It is a lovely location with sweeping views of Paradise Divide and Mt. Crested Butte and a newly renovated bridge over Slate River. A perfectly romantic spot to propose on the bridge, engagement photos by the river or a ceremony with its expansive views. Another great bridge easily accessible from town is Totem Pole Park. This bridge is a perfect romantic spot to propose in the winter as the snow is cleared all winter and it is only a block from downtown!

- Mountain passes and the surrounding wilderness offer some amazing scenery as long as you’re up for some semi-sketchy 4×4 driving. There’s some epic dispersed camping in this area, so you could even have a romantic spot to propose in the evening under the stars! These passes are usually accessible from early July, when the snow has melted, until early October, until the snow flies.

- Irwin Lake is a serene mountain lake with reflections of the surrounding peaks. It is also one of the busiest locations in the summer so keep that in mind if privacy is your top priority for your romantic spot to propose.
- Aspen groves are amazing romantic spots to propose in. If you find one in the National Forest you can access for free! Fun Fact: the largest living organism is the aspen grove over Kebler Pass.

- Paradise Divide is a high mountain pass offering panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and vibrant wildflowers during the summer months, creating a breathtaking and very romantic spot to propose in Crested Butte.
- Crested Butte Mountain is where you can enjoy sweeping views of the valley below and distant mountain ranges. But you will need to check on access with CBMR to use this location for your romantic spot to propose.
